Guangzhou Haizhu Bridge

Guangzhou Haizhu Bridge (Chinese: 海珠桥) is an iron bridge across the Pearl River in Guangzhou, China.

The bridge runs from Haizhu Square in the Yuexiu District, and south towards Jiangnan Avenue in the Haizhu District. Work started in 1929 and ended in 1933, and was completed by the American contractor Markton Company. In the years after 1949, Haizhu Bridge became the life and soul of Guangzhou. It was part of the city's old axis before the rise of Zhujiang New Town in 2010. It fostered the development of the south bank of the river. At its south end, Jiangnan Avenue (江南大道) was built, cultivating one of the biggest wedding dress streets of the country, and the city's commercial center Jiangnanxi (江南西).

In the last few years, Guangzhou has become used to seeing new construction everywhere as skyscrapers and shopping malls pop up over all over the city. Living in the south and working in the north become the common lifestyle of the people in Guangzhou. In the daytime people commuted using the bridge, while in the evening people wandered and relaxed there, taking in the cool air by the water and looking at the hives of activity on the river.

The bridge is also a perfect place for couple to have a romantic time together. Watching the sun sets from the bridge might be one of the most romantic moments you could ever spend with your beloved one. Under the light shine and the quietness of the river water, it is indeed an ideal place for couples to just stroll along the bridge talking to each other more personally. In fact, the area nearby is lined up with a series of shops, bars and cafes with dimmed light creating even more romantic situation. Along the sideway of the bridge, there are also photographers offering their service to take photographs with the bridge and the water as the background.
