Guangzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Centre (广州市城市规划展览中心)—the city ID of a brand new digital era—is now open to the public. The Centre is situated at the heart of the Baiyun New Town by the Baiyun Mountain .
The center is designed by Mr He Jingtang, academician of the National Academy of Engineering, and his team. The entire complex is indeed a modern take-on of classic Cantonese architecture. For instance, the dark grey tone reflects the color of common homes of the Pearl River Delta of which walls are constructed by whole oyster shells. The sunken landscaped garden features abundant water ways that outline the region. The huge veranda resembles the very tradition of Cantonese urban two to three-storey apartment buildings (known as Qilou, Chinese “骑楼”) which combine commercial function and civilian residence. Inside the center, the exhibition layout and flow adopt an artful approach to showcase historical and current urban development by integrating modern and classic, culture and technology. The center is literally an “urban culture living room” that presents insights of Guangzhou.
It is worth mentioning that apart from the traditional display methods such as display panels and videos, the center will also employ large models, 4D dynamics and advanced acoustic and photoelectric technologies to give a comprehensive, in-depth presentation of Guangzhou's history, architecture, contemporary construction achievements and future planning.
