Safety in Guangzhou ?

by taxi at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport

Fear often comes from within. If one thinks something is dangerous, then the fear feeds and builds up. Don’t worry about traveling to Guangzhou. It is just like traveling to most parts in the world.

Every year, thousands of foreign visitors visit Guangzhou or attend fairs in Guangzhou and go back to their countries. Just like other cities in the world, people in Guangzhou also have a common daily life such as working for 8 hours a day, eating 3 meals a day, surfing the internet enjoying leisure time, and sleeping.

There are no guarantees that it is definitely safe to travel to and within Guangzhou. Thieves and bad people exist around the world. If you just behavior as what you do in your own country, or if you have friends in Guangzhou to accompany you, this will help insure you have a safe visit.

When you arrive at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, do not accept solicitations for rides to the city. Sometimes, some people may stand at the arrival area and ask if you need a taxi. These are illegal operators who use unmarked vehicles, or charge you a fee, offer you a phony receipt, and then arrange a taxi that will charge you again. They usually cost a lot more than licensed taxis since many travelers do not know the cost of airport transportation.

Emergency numbers: Police: 110; Fire: 119; Medical: 120; Traffic accident: 122.
