Guangzhou Folk Culture Festival and Boluo Dan Temple Fair kicks off at the Nanhai God Temple.
The fair, also known as a-thousand-year temple fair, is one of the biggest traditional folk temple fairs in Guangzhou, dating back to some 1,000 years.The temple fair has been included on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2011.
Known as the oldest, grandest and most influential folk temple fair in Lingnan, people from all walks of life attend to pray for good fortune and observe traditional culture and customs.
Traditional rituals to worship the sea was performed during the opening ceremony today, praying for safety and good luck.
Variety of traditional rituals and folk performance will be put on show on the other two days of the temple fair, including the “Five Sons Worship Their Sea God Father” ritual, lion dances, dragon dances and Cantonese opera.
