Guangdong Museum, a comprehensive museum with collection of over 170,000 pieces (sets), was open to public on October 1st, 1959. It is a national first-class museum, and the base for patriotism education and social practice.
The new Guangdong Museum covers an area of 41,027 square meters with construction area of 66,980 square meters and display area of 21,000 square meters. The building of the museum has five floors above the ground and one floor under ground with an exterior outlook of jewel box. The Guangdong Museum has a large and rich collection of relics and exhibits and tourists can get a thorough knowledge of Guangdong history and culture. Collections of ceramics, painting and calligraphy, bronze, wood carvings, Duan inkstone, paleo-biological fossil, etc. can be seen in the museum.
It looks like a delicate ancient openwork container of treasures. Permanent exhibitions in terms of Guangdong History and Culture, Guangdong Natural Resource and arts (such as the Duan inkstone, Chaozhou Woodcarving and Pottery and Porcelain) as well as temporary exhibitions are exhibited in it. Furthermore, perfect infrastructure and management systems will enable the Guangdong Museum to be a modernized large-scale comprehensive museum, top-ranking in the nation and advanced in the world.
