Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, situated on the southern slope of Yuexiu Hill, was constructed between 1929 and 1931, a monument to Dr Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of Chinese democratic revolution, by the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese.
Then memorial hall emcompasses 61,000 square meters, its floor space being 12,000 square meters. It is 49 meters tall from the ground level to the summit and 22 meters high from the inside ground floor to the top arch. With a diameter of 15 meters, the hall is 71 meters wide each side. The opera stage inside the hall is 19 meters wide and 15 meters long. With two stories, the hall have a seating capacity of 4,792. It was designed by the well-known architect of modern China, Lu Yanzhi, who was also the designer of the Sun Yatsen Mausoleum in Nanjing. The building complex is composed of the arch over the gateway, the auditorium, and the several-storied buildings to the east and west. The auditorium is octagonal – in the shape of the palace hall. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall has become a symbolic building of Guangzhou.
The hall has two floors and can hold a large gathering of 5,000 people. It is also a complex carried traditional Chinese architectural style. The construction took placed in 1929, and completed in 1931. There were many historic events took placed in this building. For instance, this building was seriously damaged by the Japanese in WW II, yet on September 17th, 1945, Japan Imperial Army signed their agreement and surrendered to the Government of China here.
The oldest ceiba in Guangzhou City grows in the hall, like a centuries-old man, witnessing great changes of this city; besides, you can also have a chance to see the two biggest white jade orchid trees of Guangzhou.
A bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen was set up in 1956 in front of the memorial hall. Stepping on the monument by a steel spiral staircase, you are presented with a panoramic view of the memorial hall.[Not a valid template]
